Free Consultation

Enquiries start with an initial telephone or Zoom consultation to discuss the young person's difficulties and parent's concerns. There is no charge for this consultation and some difficulties may be addressed without further assessment.

Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment

All educational assessments are conducted and the report written in accordance with the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) current guidelines for diagnostic assessment and report writing.

Detailed information will be considered from school, the young person, and their family as part of the assessment process.

The assessment is carried out at Great Barton Village Hall and takes approximately three hours. A diagnostic decision is usually made the same day and feedback is provided within 24 hours. The diagnostic report is completed within 15 working days.

Under 8 Years?

If parents have concerns about their child's progress in school and suspect dyslexia or would like to find out where the challenges are, it is recommended that children under the age of 8 years undergo an educational assessment which focuses on the areas of difficulty. The assessment lasts 1 hour and a report is written to highlight the areas of difficulties, any strengths identified and recommendations on how best to support them in school and at home.

Educational Assessment

A young person may benefit from a shorter and more general educational assessment to identify the areas of difficulty. The assessment lasts 1 hour and will be planned around the current needs. A report will be provided with recommendations for school and home.

Recommendations

Recommendations may involve referring on to other professionals such as a Community Paediatrician or a Speech and Language Therapist for further assessment and to ensure the correct diagnosis is made.

The assessment can be used to support an application for the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) as well as exam access arrangements which form part of the young person's normal way of working in school.

Exam Access Arrangements for Schools

Schools can book assessments to support applications for exam access arrangements for students, in line with JCQ guidance, such as receiving extra time to complete exams or support from a reader.

Adults

I can assess adults for DCD/Dyspraxia as part of a diagnostic assessment. I can also assess adults for whom English is an additional language (EAL).
